How many inbound links does the site have? This is one of the main reasons for purchasing this type of domain over registering a new one. It saves you time if the previous owner has already done much of the legwork for you. If it doesn't have a decent number of back links, is it worth it? The only time I would not worry about any of the above (except the history) would be if the domain was keyword rich or had a name I just had to have. I might consider paying the price and foregoing the inbound links and PR if the registered name was my main keyword phrase.

There is one very big factor I have not mentioned above and you must fully understand if it is worth it for you to purchase an aged domain rather than starting from scratch. A really good aged domain name will not be had for pennies. One that is 5-10 years old, has maintained stellar reputation, has a decent page rank and has a good number of inbound links pointing to the domain will be expensive.

You must way all of your options before jumping into this purchase. How much Seo could you purchase for the same amount of money you would spend on that aged domain? Would it give you significant enough advantage over your competition to warrant spending that kind of money and what is your potential ROI? If you have weighed all your options and you still get a gut feeling that you are on the right track, then go for it!
